Short answer
Octa, formerly known as OctaFX, isn't on the CMA's register of licensed online forex brokers in Kenya, and the companies it names for Africa are licensed offshore, in Comoros and Mauritius. Octa says all its accounts are swap-free with no overnight commission, and its accounts start at USD 25. Its deposit guide gives a NGN 30,000 minimum for Nigeria.

What we like
- All accounts are swap-free by default with no overnight commission, according to Octa's FAQ
- USD 25 minimum deposit on OctaTrader, MT4 and MT5 accounts (Octa recommends USD 100)
- No commission on its accounts, with spreads from 0.6 pips, according to Octa's account comparison
- Octa states it charges no deposit or withdrawal fees
- Octa's deposit guide gives a NGN 30,000 minimum for Nigeria and says local bank transfers depend on your registration country
What’s missing
- Not on the CMA register of licensed online forex brokers in Kenya (checked 8 November 2026)
- The companies serving Africa are licensed offshore (Comoros and Mauritius), and Octa's own page and an Octa-sponsored article name different companies for the Mauritius licence
- USD is the only base currency listed for live accounts, so naira deposits are converted
- No cent account
- Octa's pages give different maximum leverage: 1:2000 on the account comparison, up to 1:1000 in the FAQ; either can empty a small account on a small move

Who Octa suits, and who should look elsewhere
Octa may suit you if:
- your priority is swap-free trading on every account without having to apply;
- you live in Nigeria and want to fund from a local bank, accepting that your account will be in dollars;
- you prefer accounts with no commission, where the spread is the main trading cost.
Look elsewhere if:
- you live in Kenya and want a broker licensed by the CMA; Octa isn’t on its register;
- you want your account held by a company licensed in your own country;
- you want a cent account, or an account in naira, shillings or rand.
What this review is based on
We review Octa the same way as any other broker: from regulator registers and the broker’s own published information.
We read Octa’s account comparison, FAQ, payment and complaint-policy pages directly on 8 November 2026, and checked the CMA register ourselves. Octa’s legal-documents page wouldn’t load for us, and we couldn’t read the Comoros, Mauritius or South African registers. Some company details come only from an article Octa sponsored in Finance Magnates (15 October 2025), and we label them. Octa’s own timeline starts in 2011. We haven’t tested Octa on a live account. See how we review brokers.
Make sure you’re on Octa’s real site
The broker site we used is octabroker.com. When we checked, octafx.com returned an error saying the page was gone, and octa.com showed an unrelated online shop. Copycat sites and fake “account managers” are a common route for scams, so type the address yourself rather than following links from social media or messages.
Which Octa company serves you
Whether Octa is “safe” for you comes down mostly to which company holds your money and who regulates it. No broker makes trading itself safe: you can lose your deposit with any of them.
| Company | Regulator | Licence or registration | How sure we are |
|---|---|---|---|
| Octa Markets Ltd | MISA, Comoros | T2023320 | Not checked on the regulator’s register |
| Versustrategy Inc. | FSC, Mauritius | GB21027161 | Named on Octa’s own complaint-policy page; an Octa-sponsored article names a different company for this licence |
| Orinoco Capital (Pty) Ltd | FSCA, South Africa | FSP 51913, local intermediary | Named only in an Octa-sponsored article; register not checked |
| Octa Markets Incorporated | None listed | Saint Lucia registration 2023-00092 | Named in Octa’s app listings |
Kenya
Octa isn’t on the CMA’s register of licensed non-dealing online forex brokers, which we checked on 8 November 2026. That sets it apart from the other five brokers in our comparison: Exness (162), XM (233), HFM (155), FXTM (135) and IC Markets (199) all have Kenyan companies on that register. Our Kenya page explains what Kenya’s online forex rules require. If a CMA licence matters to you, Octa doesn’t have one.
Nigeria and Ghana
None of Octa’s companies holds a Nigerian or Ghanaian licence. Octa does cater for Nigerian clients: its deposit guide gives a NGN 30,000 minimum and says local bank transfers depend on the country you register in. We haven’t confirmed which Octa company holds Nigerian accounts, so read the client agreement at sign-up. Our Nigeria page explains where Nigerian rules on online forex stand.
South Africa
An Octa-sponsored article names Orinoco Capital (Pty) Ltd, FSP 51913, as Octa’s local intermediary. An intermediary introduces clients to a product provider, so your trading contract would be with another Octa company. Check the FSP number on the FSCA register and the company named in your agreement. See forex trading in South Africa.
Accounts and conditions
Octa has three account types, named after their platforms: OctaTrader, MT5 and MT4. According to Octa’s account comparison page, they share the same conditions:
| Condition | What Octa lists |
|---|---|
| Minimum deposit | USD 25 (Octa recommends USD 100) |
| Spreads | From 0.6 pips |
| Commission | None |
| Base currency | USD only |
Octa’s FAQ adds that all accounts are swap-free (see below). There’s no cent account. Because USD is the only base currency listed, a naira, shilling or rand deposit is converted into dollars on the way in and back on the way out, and the exchange rate is part of your cost. A demo account lets you practise first without money.
Leverage
Octa’s account comparison lists up to 1:2000 on forex and gold, 1:400 on other metals, energies and indices, and 1:200 on crypto. Its FAQ lists leverage options only up to 1:1000. Until Octa’s pages agree, check the setting offered in your own account.
Leverage magnifies losses as much as gains. At 1:1000 or 1:2000, a small move against you can close your positions and empty a small account. Read leverage and margin explained and use the margin calculator before you choose a setting.
Swap-free trading
Octa’s FAQ says all its accounts are swap-free and that it charges no commission for holding positions overnight. There’s nothing to switch on or apply for. On paper, that’s the simplest swap-free arrangement among the six brokers we compare.
Two things we couldn’t find: the terms under which Octa could withdraw swap-free conditions, and whether every instrument is covered in practice. Spreads still apply on every trade. Our Islamic accounts guide lists the questions to ask any broker. Scholars differ on forex and CFD trading, and whether trading on a swap-free account meets your religious requirements is a question for a qualified scholar.
Platforms and copy trading
You can trade on Octa’s own OctaTrader platform, MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5. Octa also offers copy trading through its Octa Copy app. If you copy another trader, their losses become yours, so treat it with the same caution as trading yourself.
Deposits and withdrawals
Octa’s payment page, as it appeared from our location, listed crypto, Visa (USD 25 minimum) and Mastercard (EUR 50 minimum), and Octa states it charges no deposit or withdrawal fees. The methods you see depend on where you register. For Nigeria, Octa’s deposit guide gives a NGN 30,000 minimum and mentions local bank transfers. We couldn’t confirm local methods for Kenya or South Africa. Your own bank may charge fees, and test a small withdrawal before you deposit more.
Octa says it doesn’t serve residents of Canada, the EU, Iran, Israel, Japan, Myanmar, New Zealand, North Korea, the Philippines, the UK or the USA. Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa and Ghana aren’t on that list, though for Kenya the licensing point above matters more.
How Octa compares with Exness
Exness is the broker we recommend. Octa is ahead on swap-free simplicity: it says every account is swap-free, while Exness applies swap-free status to a published list of instruments for clients in Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa, according to its help centre. Exness is ahead on regulation in Kenya, where Exness KE Limited holds CMA licence 162 and Octa holds none, and its global company, Exness (SC) Ltd, is listed on the Seychelles register, while we couldn’t check Octa’s offshore licences. Exness has no account minimum on Standard and Standard Cent and a cent account; Octa starts at USD 25 with no cent account. Exness’s help centre lists NGN, KES and ZAR among its account currencies, while Octa lists USD only. The forex broker comparison sets Octa beside Exness, XM, HFM, FXTM and IC Markets, and the Exness review has the detail on Exness.
Before you open an Octa account
- Make sure you’re on octabroker.com or Octa’s official app.
- Read the company name in the client agreement, and look it up on that regulator’s site.
- If you live in Kenya, decide if you’re willing to use a broker without a CMA licence.
- Practise on a demo, then make a small deposit and a small withdrawal before you add more.

Common questions
Is Octa regulated?
Octa names offshore licences: Octa Markets Ltd with Comoros's MISA (T2023320) and a Mauritius FSC licence (GB21027161), which Octa's own page gives to Versustrategy Inc. An Octa-sponsored article names a different company for that licence. We couldn't check these on the regulators' registers. Octa holds no Kenyan, Nigerian or Ghanaian licence that we found.
Is OctaFX licensed in Kenya?
No. Octa isn't on the CMA's register of licensed non-dealing online forex brokers, which we checked on 8 November 2026. Exness, XM, HFM, FXTM and IC Markets all have Kenyan companies on that register.
Is Octa regulated in South Africa?
An Octa-sponsored article names Orinoco Capital (Pty) Ltd, FSP 51913, as Octa's South African intermediary. An intermediary introduces clients; your trading contract would be with another Octa company. We couldn't check the FSP number on the FSCA register, so look it up there and read your client agreement.
What is the minimum deposit on OctaFX in Nigeria?
Octa's accounts start at USD 25, and Octa recommends USD 100. Octa's deposit guide gives NGN 30,000 as the minimum for Nigeria, with local bank transfers depending on your registration country. Check the current amount in your client area.
Is Octa swap-free?
Octa says all its accounts are swap-free and that it charges no commission for holding positions overnight, with nothing to switch on. We didn't find the terms under which Octa could withdraw this. Whether it meets your religious requirements is a question for a qualified scholar.
